This Week’s Features

When I was in high school I was able to go on an INCREDIBLE trip to Greece – it was absolutely life changing!  One of my favorite aspects of the trip was the amazing food, and I was introduced to tzikiki.  So fresh and yummy, so here’s a recipe for Tzatziki Chicken Salad that I will definitely be trying this summer!

The next fun holiday I like to celebrate is Cinco De Mayo and I saw this tutorial for Mini Pinatas – perfect way to get the kids involved!

When we went to Disney World a few years ago, my middle son’s favorite treat was the churro.  This recipe for Mexican Churros is going to be a hit with him, not to mention the perfect summer time treat!

We’ve got big Lego fans in the house, so in my pre-planning for the summer, here’s a perfect tutorial for How To Make a Lego Parachute which will provide hours of fun when the kids launch them from their tree house!

Bonus Feature

I love pasta in the summer, and this recipe for Bacon Rosemary Chicken Pasta looks delicious and perfect.  P.S. Rosemary is my favorite herb!

DIY Spring Upcycled Tin Can Vase Holder

“Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point sizes, line lengths, line spacing, letter spacing, and spaces between pairs of letters.” I quoted from Wikipedia. This is very interesting to do on DIY decorations. Once I know about this, I started to have ideas flying in my mind. This Upcycled Tin Can Vase Holder is the first attempt of interpreting a typography into a piece of decoration with full aware of the term. Before this, I had made several typography on my projects without knowing the name of it. So, this project is the easiest typography I’ve made. Let’s check it out!

Things To Prepare

I like to make things with less materials. I mostly use whatever I have in my craft supplies. Just use whatever you have at home like I always do. Use more recycled things and use some scraps from previous projects will also do. Let’s see what are the list of supplies for this DIY Spring Upcycled Tin Can Vase Holder:

  • Cookie Tin
  • White spray paint
  • Black marker

How To Make

It’s an easy Upcycled Spring project which you can make in a short time. Anyway, follow these easy steps on how to do DIY Spring Upcycled Tin Can Vase Holder:

1. Paint the cookie tin with white. But make sure you have cleaned it well. Let it dry.

2 .Write the word “blossom” continuously on the top part of the tin. Do the same on bottom tin as well.

A great recycling project for Spring decor. You can put many different colorful vases and/or flowers in this Blossom Tin Can Vase Holder, It would look amazing like mine. Super simple and easy to do.

This Week’s Features

We have Taco Tuesday at our house every week, but obvi anything Mexican counts in my opinion.  We love enchiladas so I’ll definitely be trying this recipe for Chicken & Cheese Enchiladas with Homemade Enchilada Sauce from Tamy at Chasing My Life.  I’ve never made the sauce from scratch before!

Look at this fun project to make your garden even more beautiful than it already is!  These Simply DIY Garden Markers.  Rich and Donna from An Organized Season put together this cute project with supplies from the Dollar Tree, my favorite store!

As a teacher I always appreciate any gifts from my students, which can be anything from a simply thank you note to a handmade picture, even a little tube of lovely hand lotion to keep in my desk.  However this post from Darcy of Darcy and Brian of Plant Gift Ideas for Teachers is perfect!

I saw this elegant Spring Puff Pastry Wreath with Chocolate from the Dutch blog Seasons Blog and had to check it out.  I used Google Translate to convert to English and VOILA – another delicious recipe that is very spring inspired!

Bonus Feature

One of our very own HIH ladies, Linda from A Labour of Love, shared this delicious recipe for a Strawberry Lemonade Margarita and well, I’m a margarita kinda gal, so I couldn’t pass up sharing this drink.  Cheers Linda!

We have a U-Pick asparagus patch near us that’s going to be growing soon.  We’ll go and pick a few pounds for a dirt cheap price, so I need to have lots of recipes to use it all.  Check out this Spring Has Spring Puff Pie – can’t wait to try it!

Italian Cream Sodas

The beauty of this bev is what originally caught my eye, but I’m sure it’s the tastiest treat as well!  Try this recipe for Italian Cream Sodas from Kristy at Mommy Hates Cooking.

jute coasters
As we get into the spring and summer seasons, this tutorial for Farmhouse Style Braided Jutee DIY Coasters is the perfect project to lighten up your decor in a cost effective and coastal chic way.

texas eclipes cookies

Where I live is going to be in the direct path of the solar eclipse – we will be seeing totality here!  What a great way to celebrate this celestial event with these Giant Texas Eclipse Brownie Top Sugar Cookies, what a cool idea!

I’ve made a huge effort to get back into reading again and am pretty proud of the progress I’ve made.  I used to have the terrible habit of dog-earring pages.  Instead I should make one of these Decoupage Bookmarks – easy and cute!

Bonus Feature

There were just too many posts at the last Happiness is Homemade link party and I had to include this fun kids craft – Easy Coffee Filter Flowers.  Perfect for little ones to help add to the beauty of spring as the flowers come out of the ground!

Upcycled Spring Sign from Bottle Caps

I was planning to make a collage of plastic bottle cap art work, but it’s difficult to collect them in such a short time. So I have only a few of it. Then I think of vibrant Spring colorful flowers. From there, I translate it into a piece of Spring sign. And I love how it turned out to be. So vibrant, lively and beautiful.

Things To Prepare

The paint colors for the bottle caps are up to bottle cap’s color that you have and what mix of colors that you want. I chose vibrant colors of spring. I use pink, red, yellow, orange for the bottle caps. Blue and green for the background. Try to replace it with something similar to my materials if you don’t have the same one. Just use whatever you have at home like I always do. Use more recycled things and use some scraps from previous projects. I guess that’s one of a best way to be sustainable. Let’s see what are the list of supplies for this Upcycled Spring Sign from Bottle Caps:

  • MDF board (in round shape)
  • Plastic bottle caps (in different sizes)
  • Pink paint
  • Blue paint
  • Yellow paint
  • Green paint
  • Black marker
  • Green marker
  • Hot glue

How To Make

It’s an easy Upcycled Spring project which you can make in a short time. Anyway, follow these easy steps on how to do Upcycled Spring Sign from Bottle Caps:

1. Paint the board with white paint as a base. Let it dry.

2 .Draw a wavy line that split the board into two parts.

3. Paint the bottom side with green and upper side with blue. Let it dry.

4. Paint bottle caps according to your desired colors. I painted it with pink and yellow since some of my bottle caps are red and orange.

5. Glue each bottle caps accordingly to a design that you should prepare before. Just a sketch of how the bottle caps arrangement is or arrange them before you glue it one by one with hot glue.

6. Last part is to write “Spring” on top side of the sign. How lovely!

7. Don’t forget to add a ribbon as the Spring sign hanger.

A great recycling project for Spring decor. You can display it with proud by your front door or mantel. It’s an adorable Spring decoration!

This Upcycled Spring Sign from Bottle Caps project is my contribution to The Sustainable Craft Challenge Blog Hop hosted by Julie with her beautiful blog Sum of Their Stories. It’s a craft challenge with a sustainable principle behind it (upcycling, recycling, repurposing), which comes in different theme for every month. This month, the theme is “Vibrant” and last challenge was “Heart” and I made DIY Valentine Heart Sign Upcycled Pistachio Shells. I love to be part of this challenge as I love to upcycle things into something new, beautiful and useful.
