Lighthouse in Watercolor Hand Panting

Lighthouse is always a fascinating building to see in every seaside. I love the shape, the red and the white colors. Matching with my Nautical Summer theme, I hand drew a Lighthouse by seaside which I hand painted it with watercolor.

lighthouse is a tower designed to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways by emitting light. Basically, lighthouse has two types: a lighthouse on a land and on the offshore. A land lighthouse is simply built to aid navigation more over the land than water. Usually constructed in flatland where a bright lantern could be visible for many miles for traveler who’s disorientated and lost.

Lighthouses mostly mark dangerous coastlines, and were used widely. But due to high maintenance and increasing use of electronic navigational systems, slowly the number of operational lighthouses has declined. Many lighthouses are abandoned and deteriorated along with passing time. Afterwards, the lighthouse become more as preserved building.

I try to preserve it in a hand painted watercolor painting. The lighthouse on a sloping green by the calm sea. A serene look of tough lighthouse. I sketched it with pencil. I painted it with natural colors of brush pen. And for the watercolor, I used red, white, blue, ochre and green.

A framed painting could be a great piece to decorate your home. Especially a piece you made, a conversation starter with your guests. Well, hope my Lighthouse in watercolor hand painting inspires you in anything, to paint, to have a vacation, to write a poem, anything that makes you think of seaside, beach, breezy summer, all the coastal beauty.

  1. Your paintings are always so pretty. You could be an artist for a children’s book…maybe you are already, it looks like it from your paintings. I don’t do Facebook but if I did I would do Pintrest too. I try to stay off social media as much as possible but I may start having my kids help me with those other sites more, and if I do I will follow you for sure because I love your creative style…you are very good at that. For now it’s just WordPress for me.

    1. Oh dear friend, thank you so much, you’re so sweet! I love to be an artist or illustrator if someone wants to hire me 😉 I was an architect when I was still single but I don’t do paintings for hobby at that time, funny that I started to paint more now 🙂 I don’t do personal social media too, just for my blog; I love to be recognized more by my work than my personal life. So I guess you should do other social media platform to meet more amazing creative person that will inspire you 🙂 But it will take more of your time I should warn you 😀

      1. You are right, it does take up so much time to share being creative on social media. My house and garden would be a mess. The family would have to live on Microwave meals and I would never have time to up-cycle anything which I love to do. For now I will try to do what I can and continue being inspired by creative people like you. Keep painting, you are good at that and you can tell you love it too.

  3. Mel,

I’m visiting from Inspire Me Monday. Your watercolor painting is what drew me over to visit. BTW, you might be interested in a blog hop that I participate Thursday Art Date with Rain. Last week, I sketched a couple of lighthouses. I love your lighthouse painting. It reminds me a bit of West Quoddy Lighthouse on the coast of Maine. Have an artastic day!
